According to a recently published report by Forrester, six percent all US jobs will be replaced by automation over the next five years. Ten years from now, 16% of all jobs will be automated. Described as “a disruptive tidal wave,” the transformation will mostly impact transportation, logistics and customer service sectors.

The bots are coming.

Bots Are the New Apps, Only They Suck (For Now)

So far, bots — like live video, distributed content teams, virtual reality, augmented reality, AI and a dozen other doodads — might be the future, but they’re not the present. While news publishers have hastily assembled bots to pump their content onto platforms like Facebook Messenger, Line and Kik, the results have been underwhelming.

Welcome to the Future: Chinese factory replaces 90% of humans with robots, production soars

When you think of “Made in China”, what image forms in your mind? Smog and tiny Foxconn worker barracks? Yeah. Us too. Well, here’s something different. The Changying Precision Technology Company has set up a factory in Donguan to create parts for cell phones. The factory is run almost exclusively by robots. The factory went from employing 650 in the factory to a staff of 60 - and they think they could actually do with even fewer humans on the floor. Production capability looks to be up 3X, and even with the new volume, defect rates are down to 5% - from a previous, human-made 25%. This obviously means massive change in the number of manufacturing jobs available for humans in the area in the years to come. It would be so interesting to better understand what folks on the ground there think will be the “next thing” for them. Let’s keep tabs on this.
